Stockbridge Bowl Panel Orders Written Bloom Study Plan
Other Committee · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Stockbridge Bowl committee orders a written plan before backing a cyanobacteria study. The Stockbridge Bowl Stewardship Committee asked collaborators Ben Burpee and Dr. Charlie Kinney, working with consultant GZA, to submit a detailed protocol and budget for a wind-tracking pilot study before the panel recommends funding to the Select Board.
Committee member Louis Corman estimated the study at $2,000 to $3,000 for wind tracking and another $2,000 to $3,000 for cyanobacteria testing, noting "there is no testing center in the state of Massachusetts." Member Sally questioned the premise, saying lake wind is inconsistent: "It just is not the same." The committee unanimously approved its September 10 minutes and separately said it will ask the Select Board to consider banning wakeboard boats, with the chair stating "we think that they should be banned." A stalled request to study Lily Brook stormwater runoff, identified in a 2012 regional report as the lake's largest runoff source, remains unfunded more than a year after it was first raised.
