Dalton OKs Warrant for Disputed Land Buy
Other Committee · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Dalton Select Board accepts a 12-article warrant for an October 19 special town meeting, including a contested $65,000 land purchase. The board voted unanimously to send voters an article authorizing purchase of a Crane & Co. parcel on West Housatonic Street for a possible shared police-fire facility, over objections from member John Boyle, who said "the public in Dalton has a right to have notice information in advance" of total project costs, which comparable Berkshire County complexes have run from $30 million to over $40 million. The board also formally renamed its public-safety panel the Land Acquisition Committee, set its term through March 31, 2027, and added Fire Chief Ryan Foley as a sixth member.
Town Manager Eric Anderson told the board Dalton pushes roughly 350 million gallons a year into Pittsfield's sewer system, nearly double what it should, and warned fees could reach $1,800 within three years without infiltration repairs. The board separately commended four officers and a 17-year-old girl for a July 28 dog-attack rescue.
