Board sets Oct. 15 hearing on hotel cap repeal
Planning Board · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Great Barrington Planning Board sets Oct. 15 hearing on hotel cap repeal ahead of Special Town Meeting. Town Planner Christopher Rembold told the board the Select Board voted to advance a warrant article striking the 45-room hotel cap from Zoning Section 7.10, forcing a compressed public-hearing timeline before the October 19 Special Town Meeting. Members determined a hearing needed 17 to 18 days' notice, ruling out their October 8 and October 22 regular meetings, and instead scheduled a special meeting for October 15.
Select Board member Steve Bannon wrote that the board was "not trying to derail the process...only trying to speed the process up." Earlier, Housatonic Valley Association program director Eric Reardon presented a watershed plan showing the Green River faces likely listing as an impaired waterway for E. coli, and cited a nearly $700,000 MassDOT culvert grant tied to prior town partnership work. The board also tabled draft Campus Overlay District zoning changes for lack of developer interest, and approved its September 10 minutes unanimously.
