Cemetery Commission OKs $8,500 to Reset Gravestones
Other Committee · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Stockbridge Cemetery Commission votes $8,500 to reset old-section gravestones. Members unanimously hired Preservation Inc. to reset roughly 30 stones after Public Works said it lacked staff for the specialized job, with commission member Pat later finding $8,360 in leftover trust funds that could cover all but $140 of the cost. The board also wrestled with a stalled $44,575 vault masonry repair, after bidders balked at completing the work within the $39,575 remaining and Michael Canales advised splitting bids by wall to satisfy state procurement law.
"The east and west side walls are the load bearing walls because of the way the roof lays," one member said, debating which sections to prioritize if funds run short. Separately, Pat reported canceling a 12-foot granite flagpole bench project, notifying bidders "Farley and Borado" that it would not proceed, while a scaled-back bench installation using crushed-stone foundations remains possible.
