Peru Town Board Approves One-Year Food Waste Recycling Deal With Casella

Town Board · Meeting of June 8, 2026

Peru Town Board extends food waste recycling contract and advances $380,000 bridge project. The board voted unanimously at its June 8 meeting to continue the town's food waste recycling program under a one-year agreement with Casella Waste Systems, following a three-month pilot that diverted just under 2,000 pounds of food waste from 34 to 38 households. Supervisor Christine Crawford recommended Casella over a competing bid from River Valley Regeneratives of Redford because Casella's proposal includes a MetroStore smart container rental, keeping costs predictable within the one-year term.

The board also received a detailed update from engineer Mark DeSantis on a proposed 61-foot span preformed bridge over the Salmon River at Westcott Road, where two failing 10-foot culverts serve as the only access to four or five homes on a dead-end street; the InQuik Bridges structure is quoted at $380,000 with a three-month lead time, and a formal resolution authorizing engineering is expected at a future meeting. The board approved a post-audit payment resolution covering $149,206.14 in June claims and authorized a $519,821 payment to the John W. Danforth Company and a $49,273.40 payment to Triangle Electric for the wastewater treatment plant project, which is approximately 42 percent complete.
