Lee panel OKs ash tree removal, continues two permits
Conservation · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Lee Conservation Commission opens debate on tougher wetlands bylaw protections. Conservation staff pitched extending local protection to intermittent streams and isolated vernal pools not currently covered by the state Wetlands Protection Act, warning "the worst thing you can do is implement a law that you can't enforce." The panel approved removing two dead ash trees at 50 Elf Drive, 2-0 with one abstention, and continued a stalled notice of intent at 165 Housatonic Street after the applicant paid $2,400 toward a third-party review but still owes $900 and hasn't signed escrow paperwork. A separate notice of intent for a 100-space parking lot at 705 Marble Street was continued to November 2 after members said its 26-foot-wide bridge was never approved.
No bylaw vote is expected before a 2027 Town Meeting.
