Conservation panel weighs Interlaken Road redevelopment
Conservation · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Stockbridge Conservation Commission opens wetlands review of massive Interlaken Road hotel project. Engineer Jim Scobies of SGA Design Group outlined the redevelopment of 35-37 Interlaken Road, approved for a special permit by the Select Board about a year ago, converting a historic mansion into a hotel with 17 surrounding homes and an agricultural amenity area. The applicant is offering a 228-acre conservation restriction to offset roughly 4,300 to 4,500 square feet of wetland alteration from a new 800-foot access road.
Members balked at a proposed eight-foot wildlife fence sited within a wetland, with Scobies telling them, "Don't shoot the messenger." No vote was taken; a site visit is tentatively set for September 25 pending comments from peer-review engineer David. The commission separately approved a certificate of compliance for 6 Arthur Fiedler Road after 18 of the required trees, exceeding a 75 percent survival rate, were confirmed alive, and continued six smaller applications, including the One Stone Hill solar array, to September 22.
