Lee Delays Marriott Hotel Review Over Floodplain
Conservation · Meeting of August 5, 2026
Lee Conservation Commission delays review of a 74-room Marriott hotel over floodplain fill questions. The board voted to continue the notice of intent for Garden Management Incorporated's proposed four-story hotel at 165 Housatonic Street until August 19, after project engineer Ryan could not fully satisfy member Brian's questions about how lowering land for a detention basin would affect flood storage. The panel also invoked Massachusetts General Law Chapter 44, Section 53G, to bill the applicant $900 to cover added stormwater peer-review costs from engineering firm Fleetwood.
In unrelated business, the commission unanimously approved riverfront determinations for a dry-storage building at 1375 Cape Street sought by applicant Tim Williams and a fuel tank installation at 100 Tyringham Road for Business Investments LLC, plus a negative determination allowing brush and debris cleanup near a documented brownfield site elsewhere in town.
