Solar Array Blocked by Scenic Mountains Rule
Conservation · Meeting of August 25, 2026
Stockbridge Conservation Commission halts a solar array over a scenic-mountains violation and flags a lake-house rebuild for a setback conflict. An installer identified only as Andrew proposed a 1,500-square-foot ground-mounted array on Stonehill Road, well over the Scenic Mountains Act's 500-square-foot disturbance limit; the board ordered flagging and a site visit before any filing is accepted. "You know, people can't stand them and we get that," he said of ground-mounted arrays.
Separately, Foresight Land Services' Mia Giardina presented a 2 Cove Lane rebuild moving a house from a 31-foot to a 46-foot lake setback that still adds 20 square feet of new construction inside the town's 50-foot no-build zone, prompting a site visit set for August 31 at 3 p.m. The board also voted unanimously to issue a certificate of compliance for a decade-old septic system at 108 Interlaken Road and approved minor wall and paver revisions at 8 Hawthorne Road. A Tighe & Bond report showed a dam downgraded to "unsafe" in November 2025 has been stabilized back to "poor" condition.
