Board Continues Salvage Yard Noise Hearing
Select Board · Meeting of September 28, 2026
Great Barrington continues contentious salvage yard license hearing to Oct. 26. The Select Board heard dueling accounts of a decades-old special permit at All Star Salvage, doing business as Formel Auto Salvage, with attorney Sean McCormick arguing "the business is either in compliance or can easily be in compliance" and attorney Mitch Greenwald producing a document he said was the actual 1994 permit, contradicting McCormick's version. Neighbor Michelle Levers played a recording of crushing noise, saying, "Now picture that all day.
You're at your house." The board voted 5-0 to continue the hearing. Separately, consultant Becca Meekins told the board roughly 80 percent of regional ambulance calls now come from Great Barrington, as the town weighs a $2.3 million regional EMS expansion, a special-legislation EMS district, or folding ambulance service into the fire department, options that would cut the town's $1.3 million fire-and-EMS cost to $586,000 if shared across eight towns. The Housatonic Improvement Committee asked for $10,000 in annual town support.
