Stockbridge Water Panel Weighs Options for Interlaken Road Pump Station
Water · Meeting of May 5, 2026
Stockbridge water commission debates fire-flow upgrade for Interlaken Road resort's pump station. Commission member Mike told the panel the Massachusetts DEP will require the aging pump station at 37 Interlaken Road, serving a newly permitted equestrian resort, to be replaced with redundant, generator-backed equipment and underground storage tanks. The bigger open question: whether the development becomes a town water customer or an independently regulated "consecutive system" like Bard College at Simon's Rock, which is served through Great Barrington.
"They have to have a licensed operator," Mike said of the consecutive-system option. Extending town responsibility to Tree Farm Road could let seven or eight more homes connect to municipal water. Separately, commission member Tony reported a repaired Goodrich pump station pump is back online after seven weeks down, and a wastewater treatment plant wet well untouched for nine years will be cleaned next week alongside $2,200-a-day sewer jetting work on Main Street.
