Mount Greylock Adopts Immigration Policy, OKs Goals
School Committee · Meeting of September 10, 2026
WILLIAMSTOWN — Mount Greylock schools adopt immigration-enforcement policy under a tight state deadline. The School Committee, chaired by Julia Bowen, voted 7-0 Thursday to approve Policy ACL, governing staff interactions with officers conducting civil immigration enforcement, after the state's Protect Act gave districts until September 1 to comply. Superintendent Joe said the district already followed informal procedures based on attorney-general guidance but lacked a formal policy.
The committee also voted unanimously to approve Joe's four FY27 goals, tied to Panorama belonging surveys, literacy and math diagnostics, and a new district vision statement. Member Carrie pushed back on a proposal to move Joe's evaluation from spring to fall: "I just don't want to give too much stock" to MCAS data, she said. Minutes from two August meetings passed 6-0 with one abstention each.
The meeting opened with a moment of silence for three community members, including former Superintendent Bill Travis.
