Lenox Schools Adopt Cell Phone Ban
School Committee · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Lenox School Committee adopts bell-to-bell cell phone ban, waives second reading. Principal Brooke Kaminsky presented the policy, which requires students to lock phones, smartwatches and earbuds in Yonder pouches from homeroom until 2:25 p.m., after Massachusetts' House passed a restriction bill 129-25 on April 8 with a September 1 DESE filing deadline looming. A student representative said classmates were "really annoyed and honestly angry" at first but came around after grade-level meetings.
The committee also voted unanimously to raise the adult school lunch price from $5.60 to $5.75, approved capital funds to replace lead-affected plumbing fixtures at Morris Elementary and Lenox Memorial High School, and accepted $12,000 from the Philadelphia Foundation and $350 from Berkshire Pride. Enrollment held at 743 students districtwide.
