Stockbridge Fire Chief Resigns, Board Preps Interim Search

Stockbridge Fire Chief Vincent Garofoli resigns effective October 31, sending the Select Board scrambling to name an interim replacement. Board members said they have roughly seven weeks to act, targeting October 15 to finalize interim leadership and a joint meeting with West Stockbridge's fire oversight board within the next two weeks. One member said bringing in an outside interim "keeps it neutral" between internal and external candidates for the permanent job.
Separately, the board unanimously approved one-day liquor licenses for Hot Plate Brewery Company, Berkshire Mountain Brewery and a third vendor for the October 10-11 Berkshire Garden Center Harvest Festival, and resident Anita Schwerner pressed, unsuccessfully, for an update on a stalled Berkshire Regional Planning Commission study tied to the state's "seasonal communities" housing designation.
