Southern Berkshire School Committee Appoints Myers as Business Administrator Pending Contract

LENOX — May 14, 2026 — Southern Berkshire school district appoints new business administrator and hears stark budget warning. The Southern Berkshire Regional School District School Committee voted 6-0-1 Wednesday to appoint Matthew Myers as school business administrator, pending contract negotiations, with member Carl abstaining. Superintendent Brian Bruno and financial consultant TJ LaPlante of Open Architects told the committee that while district salaries are rising only 2 percent — from roughly $10.5 million to $10.7 million — more than $1.8 million in grant and circuit-breaker offsets used to lower last year's general-fund assessment to $8.6 million are not available for fiscal year 2027, with current offsets standing at only about $610,000. Bruno warned the committee directly: "Building a budget in five days is not best practice," noting that Memorial Day leaves him only five working days to produce a complete budget packet before a May 28 presentation and a targeted special adoption vote on June 3. Sheffield resident Amy Murray told the committee during public comment that the gap between the March budget and the current version amounts to roughly $200,000 — "not worth two months and a special town meeting."
