Planning Board Denies Depot Street Sign Request
Planning Board · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Stockbridge Planning Board denies a Depot Street sign request and reopens a contested Hawthorne Road lot division. The board voted unanimously to deny a yarn shop owner's bid for a five-square-foot roadside sign, exceeding the town's four-square-foot bylaw limit, pointing her toward the Zoning Board of Appeals. Separately, attorney Jason Smith argued the town missed its 21-day statutory deadline to act on a Form A application for 90 Hawthorne Road, entitling owners Michael Lynch and Susan Baker to automatic approval.
Town Counsel Donna Brewer countered that the original filing had the wrong map, parcel number and street address, and that the plan shown to the board lacked the required 300 feet of frontage. "I don't understand how we wound up here," said surveyor Michael Parsons. The board agreed to treat an August 14 letter as a new application and scheduled a special meeting for August 25.
