Ag panel to draft farmland preservation fund
Other Committee 2026-08-31 Part 2 · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Stockbridge's agricultural commission moves toward a dedicated farmland preservation fund. Members discussed modeling a warrant article on Williamstown's new fund, which started with about $25,000 managed by that town's treasurer, and floated redirecting a long-unspent $50,000 Community Preservation Act allocation originally earmarked for a hydrology study. Vice Chair Eric explained the mechanics of the town's Community Preservation Act surcharge, noting state matching funds "use revenue from land transfers." The commission also tabled a DCR tree-grant application for Main and Church streets to next year, citing a tight October 1 deadline, and the chair, five years in the role, said she may need to delegate chair duties after a baby arrives in late November: "I don't want to be the linchpin that's holding everything up."
