Great Barrington Select Board Recommends Truss Design for State Road Bridge Replacement

LENOX — Great Barrington Select Board votes 4-1 to recommend truss-style design for State Road Bridge and defers hotel permit dispute to July 27. The board backed Alternative Two, a truss design paying homage to the existing red bridge at Routes 7 and 23, over a stone-clad alternative, following a MassDOT Zoom presentation on July 1 that Town Manager Chris Rembold credited to strong turnout at a November 2025 public hearing. A public comment portal is live on the town DPW website through at least the end of the week.

On the stalled 79 Bridge Street hotel, attorney Kathleen McCormick, representing applicants VJ and Crystal Mahita, asked the board to allow her to confer with town counsel before any show cause hearing on a possible special permit lapse, telling the board that a facade-preservation requirement had added "more than a million dollars of cost" and years of delay to the project; the board voted unanimously to continue the matter to July 27.
