Finance panel OKs $67,037 in reserve transfers
Finance Committee · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Stockbridge Finance Committee approves $67,037 in reserve transfers, learns a town building's cupola must come down before winter. Snow and ice removal drove $54,000 of the overrun, 59 percent of the total, with smaller overruns in HVAC repairs, fire training, and a Parks and Recreation pipe rupture. Staff presenter Michael told the committee a building envelope study found that repairs completed between 2006 and 2013 with $131,000 in Community Preservation Act funds had concealed rot rather than fixing it.
Removal alone is estimated at $25,000, with full restoration potentially reaching "$80,000 or more." No funding source has been chosen; options include a reserve transfer or a Town Meeting warrant article. "Because this is a life safety issue, we needed to act in that," Michael said.
