Select Board signs Oct. 1 special town meeting warrant
Select Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026
Lee Select Board signs warrant for October 1 special town meeting overhauling battery storage zoning. Town Planner Brooke Kelly told the board Massachusetts' new consolidated energy permitting regulations, taking effect the same day, forced the rewrite after the attorney general's office rejected the town's prior moratorium on battery storage as illegal under the state's "protected use" classification. The warrant also seeks $8,500 to reimburse a homeowner for sewer damage caused by a now-defunct town contractor, recommended by the Finance Committee.
The board separately approved an easement to Eversource Energy for utility work near 35 and 39 Railroad Street and heard from Spectrum representatives Nancy Clark and John Connor on a November 23 network upgrade and recurring resident billing complaints. "This isn't us saying we want to bring in battery energy storage. We have no choice," Kelly said.
All votes were unanimous.
