Health Board Moves Toward New Staff Request
Board of Health · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Great Barrington Board of Health moves to seek more staff and defers vaccine-education debate to November. Members approved September minutes 2-0, with Chair Michael Lanoue abstaining for an absence, while Dr. Ruby Chang pushed to formally ask the Select Board and Town Manager for a part-time position to support the department's lone health agent, hired in August.
Resident Dina Fisher of 84 Cottage Street asked the board to launch a town vaccine-education campaign amid "fear" over federal regulatory turmoil, prompting Chang to detail Massachusetts' independent vaccine-review process: "Public health is education... giving out information, trying to help people make difficult decisions." The board also began a monthlong outreach push on an overdue, 2018-vintage solid waste hauler regulation rewrite and heard that Mass DEP has fined the All-Star auto-wrecking yard over an unresolved 2022 fire cleanup, with no confirmed groundwater testing done since. No action on vaccine education is expected before the November 5 meeting.
