Dalton Finance Committee Approves Transfers, Finalizes Two Department Budgets
Other Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026
Dalton Finance Committee unanimously approves two reserve fund transfers and finalizes the last two department budgets ahead of the May 4 annual town meeting. The committee approved a $3,300 transfer to the Dalton Cultural Council to help fund Dalton Days, scheduled for June 13, bringing the council's total available event budget to roughly $10,000. A second $1,992 transfer covered an unpaid LexisNexis subscription the town was contractually obligated to pay.
The vocational education budget was amended and approved at $817,473, a 13.44 percent increase, while street lights came in at $35,616, up 3.49 percent. Town Manager Eric presented a proposed free cash allocation plan projecting more than $2 million, including $350,000 for sewer stabilization and $50,000 earmarked for anticipated litigation with Berkshire Community College. The committee also voted to support a pre-town meeting public information session, likely April 28, with a letter to be sent to the Select Board requesting coordination on the date and format.
