Williamstown has sold its Water Street property to the college for $2 million, clearing the way for a new $100 million wellness and athletics complex.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The land deal was discussed at the July 15 Finance Committee meeting, where a member said the town "sold Water Street for $2 million to the college" so that the college "can move the facility building and start their $100 million wellness and athletics complex, which I think is great for the town." In exchange, officials said, the college is taking over what had been town-owned dirt lots on the site.

Committee members noted that unlike federal COVID relief funds, which were distributed by the Select Board under special law, the $2 million the town received "is just another revenue source for the town," meaning any spending of it will have to go through the normal budget process, from the Finance Committee to Town Meeting, before it can be allocated. The committee said it would begin discussing its priorities for the funds.
