Sandisfield Opens Paving Bids, Hears of MassDOT Bridge Takeover on Route 183

SANDISFIELD — February 2, 2026 — Sandisfield Select Board opens paving bids, learns state will take over a Route 183 bridge. The board publicly opened four sealed bids Monday for Silver Brook Road and Town Hall paving work, with reported grand totals ranging from roughly $233,938 to $486,708 from Northeast Paving, Maximilian, Palmer Paving Company, Williams Paving Company, and LB Corp; staff will verify figures before any award. The board also approved bids for Old Town Hall interior improvements — Rocky's Acoustics at $12,200 for a drop ceiling and TJB Electric at $4,878.73 for electrical work — both well under the $75,000 town meeting appropriation. Town Administrator Jamie reported that MassDOT has selected Sandisfield for the first round of its Accelerated Infrastructure Repair program, taking over bridge number 616286 on Route 183 over Sandy Brook, noting, "This bridge probably isn't the one that we would have picked. Absolutely not." The board also heard that the Sandisfield Fire Department Inc. has still not signed eminent domain documents or accepted payment, and that DCR has denied a request to donate barn timbers to the Blanchard family, whose Cold Spring Road barn burned on Thanksgiving.
