Road Crews Begin Work on County, Yokum Pond and Tyne Roads

BECKET — Road crews have begun work on County, Yokum Pond and Tyne roads between Route 8 and the Becket/Lee town line, including a bridge project on Yokum Pond Road, the town announced this week, as officials also put out a call for volunteers to help launch a new Swap Shop at the Transfer Station this summer.

TOWN HALL The town confirmed that construction is now underway on the County Road, Yokum Pond Road and Tyne Road corridor running from Route 8 to the Lee town line, a project that includes replacing the Yokum Pond Road bridge. No completion timeline or detour information was included in the town's announcement.

Separately, the town is recruiting volunteers to help staff and organize its new Swap Shop, set to open at the Transfer Station later this summer. The reuse program lets residents drop off and take used goods rather than throwing them away.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Becket Athenaeum had a full slate on tap Thursday, including an online prescription-drug resources session with Jimmy Hall from 4 to 5 p.m. and a Game Night from 6 to 8 p.m., alongside its regular morning yoga offerings with Rima Sala and a free chair-yoga class for seniors.

COMING UP The library continues its run of summer programming over the next week: a modern dance class with Louise on Friday at 10:30 a.m., Storytime with Stay & Play on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and a talk on Ramiro Davaro-Comas's "Murals and Community" exhibit, part of the Super Stories project, Saturday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The Athenaeum's Baby & Toddler Group returns Tuesday, July 21, at 10 a.m.

On the municipal calendar, the Sherwood Forest Lake District meets Friday at 9 a.m., the Energy Committee meets Tuesday, July 21, at 5 p.m., and the Planning Board meets Wednesday, July 22, at 5 p.m.
