Lenox Cemetery Commission Advances Maintenance Plans, Reviews Cremation Plot Policy

LENOX — April 28, 2026 — Lenox Cemetery Commission advances maintenance and policy changes for Church Street burial ground. Vice Chair Candace Currie presided at the April 28 meeting, reporting on a site walk with cemetery consultant Rich Atwood and Highway Superintendent Bob Navin that produced a slate of planned improvements: seven stored marble posts will replace the worst-condition markers in the ground; a driveway relocation will create a new row of four-foot-by-five-foot plots for cremated remains only, the first new plot size the cemetery has proposed; and overgrown shrubs near the northwest entrance will be cleared by a joint effort of Atwood's and Navin's crews ahead of a May burial. The commission also reviewed three contractor bids being assembled for flagpole area stonework, with stonemason Barry Kuzmeskas of Native Stone expected to conduct a site visit by May 12. Members worked through a revised draft of the cemetery's definitions and policies document, catching a dimensional error in a proposed two-foot-by-five-foot single cremation plot and agreeing to send the document back to Atwood before the next meeting, scheduled for May 27.
