Great Barrington Finance Committee elects Meager chair in organizational session

LENOX — May 19, 2026 — Great Barrington Finance Committee reorganizes for new term, elects three officers. The committee voted unanimously, 4-0, to install Madonna Meager as chair, Jeffrey Rothenberg as vice chair, and Rayo Mazzuzaki as clerk at its May 19 organizational meeting — the first formal session for new members Rothenberg and Mazzuzaki alongside veterans Meager and Michelle Lubert. Before the chair vote, Lubert flagged a Massachusetts ethics-law constraint affecting public employees on municipal bodies, noting it could limit availability for the role's demands. Lubert called for the committee to pursue earlier involvement in the school budget process, saying the panel currently receives figures "at the eleventh hour." Resident James Garzon, 84 North Lane Road, echoed that concern during public comment, citing school spending at roughly 70 percent of the town's tax bill and urging Finance Committee representation on the school finance committee. The committee also noted it carries one open vacancy heading into what members called "a tough time" ahead.
