Bylaw, Planning panels convene as Becket presses ahead on summer agenda

Town committees kept up a steady pace of summer business Wednesday, with the Bylaw Review Committee and Planning Board both meeting, while the Becket Athenaeum and local arts groups pushed ahead with a full slate of July programming.

TOWN HALL

The Bylaw Review Committee met at 3 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a 5 p.m. Planning Board meeting, according to the town's official calendar. Later this week, the Conservation Commission and Board of Health are both scheduled to meet Thursday, July 9.

Town officials continue to seek volunteers for Becket's new Swap Shop, set to open this summer at the Transfer Station, per the town's News Flash postings. Residents are also reminded that road work is underway on County, Yokum Pond, and Tyne Roads, including the Yokum Pond Road bridge project, and that Transfer Station permits, which expired June 30, must be renewed either online or at Town Hall.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Becket Athenaeum's Baby & Toddler Group met Tuesday morning, and the library's regular Yoga at Becket Town Hall session was scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. Looking ahead, the library's Storytime with Stay & Play returns Saturday, July 11, alongside a busy afternoon that includes the Super-Stories opening reception and a "Music Brings Communities Together" performance by Bobby Sweet.

Elsewhere in local arts and history, the Berkshire Eagle reports that a guided cemetery tour in Becket is highlighting the graves of Revolutionary War veterans, tying into the town's ongoing 250th-anniversary commemorations — a theme also reflected in the town's recent Oak Tree Planting Ceremony.
