Becket Calls for Volunteers to Staff New Transfer Station Swap Shop

BECKET — Becket officials are calling for volunteers to help launch a new swap shop at the Transfer Station this summer, even as road crews continue work on the town's Yokum Pond Road bridge project.

TOWN HALL The town is recruiting community volunteers to staff Becket's new Swap Shop, planned to open at the Transfer Station later this summer, according to a notice on the town's website. Residents interested in helping run the reuse program are directed to contact Town Hall for details.

Separately, the town confirmed that road work has begun on County Road, Yokum Pond Road, and Tyne Road between Route 8 and the Becket/Lee line, including a bridge project on Yokum Pond Road. Several town boards were on the calendar to meet Tuesday, including the Finance Committee, Parks and Recreation Committee, Municipal Buildings Advisory Committee, and Cemetery Commission.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Becket Athenaeum's "Super-Stories" exhibit is now on view following an opening reception held last week. The show ties into an upcoming talk, "Murals and Community," with artist Ramiro Davaro-Comas, scheduled for July 18.
