Becket begins road work on County, Yokum Pond, Tyne roads
BECKET — Crews have begun work on County Road, Yokum Pond Road and Tyne Road between Route 8 and the Becket/Lee line, including the Yokum Pond Road bridge project, the town announced, while officials also put out a call for volunteers to help open a new Swap Shop at the Transfer Station this summer.

The Town of Becket confirmed that road work has begun on County, Yokum Pond and Tyne roads, running from Route 8 to the Becket/Lee line, and includes the Yokum Pond Road bridge project. The town did not specify a completion date.
Separately, the town is seeking volunteers to help staff a new Swap Shop set to open this summer at the Transfer Station, where residents will be able to drop off and pick up reusable household items. Transfer Station users were also reminded that permits, which expired June 30, can be purchased online or at Town Hall weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Becket Athenaeum, the town's public library, drew families Saturday morning for its Storytime with Stay & Play program. Later that afternoon, the library hosted an opening reception for "Super-Stories," an exhibit by artist Ramiro Davaro-Comas, from 2 to 4 p.m.
In the evening, the library's Music Brings Communities Together concert series featured performer Bobby Sweet from 5 to 7 p.m.
COMING UP
The Becket Athenaeum has a full slate of programming over the coming week. A Cookbook Club discussing "The Complete Salad Cookbook" by America's Test Kitchen meets Monday, July 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. The library's Baby & Toddler Group returns Tuesday, July 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., alongside a free Osteo/Chair Yoga class for seniors at 10:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, July 15, the library hosts Plein Air in Becket, an outdoor painting session, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by W.I.P. Wednesday for musicians from 6 to 8:30 p.m. One-on-one tech support for seniors is also available that afternoon by appointment.
Game Night at the library follows Thursday, July 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Davaro-Comas returns Saturday, July 18, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for a talk on "Murals and Community."
