Stockbridge Parks Committee Approves Lead Test, Trees for Disc Golf Course

LENOX — May 15, 2026 — Stockbridge Parks and Recreation Committee approves lead test and native tree purchases at May 15 meeting. The committee voted unanimously to spend $500 on a professional lead test of all playground equipment at Interlaken Park, coordinating through Tri-Town Health Department, after members confirmed a home test kit is not sufficient and that several pieces of equipment dating to the early 1980s, including a merry-go-round, seesaw, and an oversized slide, cannot be repaired or moved without triggering mandatory removal under current safety standards. The committee also voted unanimously to spend $250 on native trees and shrubs to complete the disc golf course's five-location planting plan, with the Agriculture Commission separately funding two of the five trees. On the pavilion, members confirmed the structure goes up May 28 and that a permanent electrical connection to the grid would cost approximately $25,000 due to required parking lot trenching, so a whisper generator will power summer concerts funded through an existing Massachusetts Cultural Council grant. A concrete replacement for the deteriorating skate park was described as realistically one to two years away, pending the town's Open Space and Recreation Plan grant application to Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, submitted March 18.
